Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2: A Possibility in the Future
Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm, declared during the Star Wars Celebration in London that the second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is not in active development right now. The Disney+ series, which brought back the iconic character played by Ewan McGregor ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith was acclaimed by critics and audiences. The creator affirmed that McGregor has interest in returning for the production, but the studio is focused on current projects, temporarily putting aside any ideas for a sequel.
Despite this, it would be a missed opportunity if Lucasfilm did not produce a continuation of the series. Besides the actor’s wishes, since the end of the prequel trilogy, fans have been waiting for the character’s return and were rewarded with a narrative propelled by his charismatic performance and a character-driven script that was well received by critics. The series established various stories and mysteries to be developed in new seasons.
One of these mysteries is his ongoing training with Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) after the events shown in the last episode of the first season. Although there have been recent reports about Liam Neeson’s disbelief in returning to the franchise, fans still hope to see more material related to the character’s important relationship with his mentor.
Exploring Obi-Wan Kenobi’s dynamic with other characters like Owen Lars (Joel Edgerton) or Reva (Moses Ingram) after leaving the dark side with the Jedi would be another interesting perspective.
Although Kathleen Kennedy has stated that there are no plans for a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the fans’ desire and the actor and creative team’s dedication can change that. In the meantime, the Star Wars franchise continues strong with new projects being developed for Disney+.
